AC Toepfer bids US$267/tonne in India wheat tender

Hamburg-based Alfred C. Toepfer has emerged as the lowest bidder in an Indian government tender to import up to 1 million tonnes of wheat, quoting around USUS$267/tonne, a senior food ministry official said Monday (May 21).

"We have received seven bids at prices between US$267 and US$302 a tonne in this tender," the official, who didn't wish to be named, told reporters after the bids were opened.

He said Alfred C. Toepfer has offered 120,000 tonnes of wheat at around US$267/tonne and additional volumes beyond the delivery deadline of August 15 stipulated in the tender.

"We are yet to decide on whether to accept additional volumes from Toepfer and other bidders beyond the deadline," he said.

The wheat import tender was issued on behalf of the government-owned State Trading Corp.
