Russia to halt seafood imports from Vietnamese factories

Imports of fish, fish products and seafood from two Vietnamese plants and enhance laboratory control over products of eight more Vietnamese manufacturers will be suspended by the Federal Veterinarian and Phytosanitary Control Service on May 22.

If new violations occur at the eight plants, the service will have to suspend imports of their products, it said.

The restrictions result from microbes found in Vietnamese fish and seafood supplied to the Russian market.

The service asked the Vietnamese Agriculture and Agrarian Development Ministry to find the source of microbes at the plants and to prevent the delivery of unsafe products to the Customs Union in the future.
