Ukraine suffers sharp drop in cattle and pig numbers

 

 

Ukraine's cattle numbers fell 11.1 percent while the hog herd shrank 20 percent compared with a year earlier, according to the state statistics committee Tuesday (May 20, 2008).

 

Ukraine's cattle herd now numbers 6.07 million while the hog herd stands at 6.5 million.

 

The number of poultry totaled 165.9 million, 4 percent more than on May 1, 2007.

 

The number of sheep and goats in the country on the date was 2.08 million, 1.2 percent more than a year ago.
