Canada may increase meat export to Russia

Canada may increase meat export to Russia, according to Sergei Dankvert, head of Russian agricultural authority Rosselkhoznadzor.

The prospects of increasing trade and tightening control over the safety of meat exports were discussed at the talks in St. Petersburg with Carole Swan, president of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Dankvert said.

Russia banned Canadian pork imports on April 1, but Canada has since met most of Russia's conditions, including the introduction of new veterinary certificates.

Beef imports are also proceeding as per normal and may be increased.
