Ukraine cattle numbers down; pigs, poultry, goats up
The number of cattle in Ukraine on May 1 totalled 5.759 million, a fall of 5 percent compared with May 1, 2008, the state statistics committee reported Monday (May 18).
The total cattle number included 2.883 million cows, a fall of 6.8 percent compared with May 1, 2008.
The number of pigs in the country on the date totalled 6.844 million, 4.8 percent more than a year ago.
The number of poultry totalled 174.8 million, 5.4 percent more than on May 1, 2008.
The number of sheep and goats in the country on the date was 2.163 million, 4.2 percent more than a year ago.
