Bird flu hits south-western Vietnam province

Vietnam's south-western province of Dong Thap has been hit by the bird flu virus, said Vietnam's Department of Animal Health (DAH) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

According to a report, the bird flu virus broke out in a local farm on May 10, 2009, killing 49 out of a flock of 142 ducks.

Local animal health authorities had been implementing measures to curb the spread of the bird flu virus to nearby areas.

Currently, Vietnam reports 3 provinces hit by bird flu including two central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Quang Ngai and a newly-confirmed Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap.
