Malaysia inspects pig farms for AH1N1 flu virus

Some 70 percent of over 700 pig farms in Malaysia have been inspected to ensure they are free of AH1N1 flu, Ministry of Agriculture & Agro-Based Industry (MAAI) deputy minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom said.

Baharom said checks on a total of 22,780 samples taken from 529 registered and 93 traditional farms showed that they are free of the AH1N1 flu virus, but, 22 farms are found to be facing serious problems not related to the flu virus.

He said inspections on the remaining pig farms would be completed in a week.

The ministry has previously announced a ban on the import of pork as part of the measures to keep the epidemic at bay.
