Corn prices in China remain firm; livestock diseases affect markets in the north (May 19, 2005)

An eFeedLink exclusive report

Corn prices in China remained firm early this week. As planting in the north-eastern regions nears the end, buying and selling activities have stepped up.

Exports are also on the rise amid stable prices. However, the emergence of foot and mouth disease in northern regions has affected markets there, with consumption lacklustre and prices weak to lower as a result. Markets in southern consumption regions, on the other hand, have been generally stable, as have price levels.
