In 2008, Brazil and India concluded a sanitary agreement for export of Brazilian chicken meat to India. However, the 100% tariff imposed by the Indian government prevented exports. The same situation has occurred with US exports.
 
According to the chief executive of UBABEF, Francisco Turra, the US and Brazilian export sectors have great expectations on the opening of the Indian market, which still has a low per capita consumption of poultry meat, with less than 2 kilogrammes per capita / year. To get an idea, in Brazil, this consumption is 47 kilogrammes per capita / year.
 
According to Mr Turra, Brazil will join forces with the US to reverse the situation in India. Furthermore, the Brazilian government is being called on to intervene in the matter. There are good expectations about the growth of meat consumption in India, and agribusiness exporters intend to establish partnerships.
