Australia's New South Wales detects yersiniosis in cattle

Cattle producers on the New South Wales Mid North and North Coasts are being urged to check for signs of yersiniosis, more commonly known as flood mud scours, due to a reported case this season.

Livestock Health and Pest Authority district veterinarian Ian Poe says producers can expect to see more cases in the cooler months ahead.

"It's a bacterial infection in the intestine of cattle. Occasionally cattle will die quite suddenly without showing any real signs, although it is more common for them to become depressed, go off their feed and develop quite a profuse watery diarrhoea.
