Ukraine's March grain exports fall 28.8%
In March 2011, Ukraine's grain exports fell by 28.8% or 450,270 tonnes compared with March 2010, to 1.12 tonnes for US$280.77 million.
Grain exports in March 2011 grew by a factor of 1.5% or by 384,680 tonnes compared to February 2011.
In January-March 2011, grain exports decreased by 50.9% or 2.29 tonnes to 2.21 tonnes for US$554.83 million, as compared with January-March 2010.
In February 2011, grain exports decreased by 42.2% or 534,430 tonnes compared to February 2010, to 730,830 tonnes for US$184.50 million.
In 2010, grain exports decreased by 48.7% or 12,549,150 tonnes compared with 2009.
Meanwhile, grain stocks s of May 1 totalled 8.3 million tonnes, 9% more than on May 1, 2010, the state statistics committee said Monday.
The stocks included 3.8 million tonnes of wheat, one million tonnes of barley, 3.1 million tonnes of corn and 200,000 tonnes of rye.
Farmers held 3.2 million tonnes of grain, 4% less than a year ago, including 1.3 million tonnes of wheat, 500,000 tonnes of barley, 1.1 million tonnes of corn and 36,100 tonnes of rye.
The remaining grain was held by grain storage and processing companies.
Ukraine's grain harvest in 2010 fell 14.8% on the year to 39.23 million tonnes in clean weight because of drought. Ukraine's annual grain consumption is about 26 million tonnes.
