Grain exports from Ukraine to total 20.2-20.7 million tonnes

In the current marketing year (July 2009 - June 2010), grain exports from Ukraine will total 20.2-20.7 million tonnes, said Sergey Stoyanov, the general director of Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.

According to S. Stoyanov, the export volumes will reach the maximum volumes of nearly 20.7 million tonnes in the terms of partial solution of the problem with the VAT repayment.

S. Stoyanov also said that from the beginning of the current marketing year (MY), and as May 13, 2010, Ukraine exported 19.7 million tonnes of grains, including 8.7 million tonnes of wheat, 5.7 million tonnes of barley, 4.9 million tonnes of corn.

Vladimir Klimenko, the President of Ukrainian Grain Association, declared that to date grain export rates from Ukraine are rather low. According to him, during 10 days of May, Ukraine exported 200 thousand tonnes of grain only. Grain export volumes from the country continue decreasing.

According to the head of the association, the problems with the repayment of the VAT debts to grain trading companies became the main reasons of the reduction of grain exports. Previously market exports forecasted grain export volumes from Ukraine in 2009/10 MY at the level of nearly 22 million tonnes, in the terms of solving the problem with the VAT repayment.

In 2009, Ukraine harvested 46 million tonnes of grains and leguminous plants in clean weight, down 13.7% compared to the level in 2008.
