Kazakhstan's wheat exports soar in Q1
Kazakhstan exported 1.315 million tonnes of wheat and meslin (mix of wheat and rye) from January to March 2014, 39.3% more than in the same period of 2013, the Agency of Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.
In value terms, the exports of wheat and meslin in the same period amounted to US$305.6 million, up by 7.4% on-year.
Kazakhstan also exported 469,600 tonnes of wheat and rye flour for US$134.8 million, an increase of 39.8% in volume and 18.8% in value.
Kazakhstan is one of the largest grain exporters. In 2012, grain output in the country reached 12.8 million tonnes; while in 2013, the harvest of cereals and pulses topped 18.9 million tonnes, including 14.5 million tonnes of wheat.
