China's edible farm produce prices slide

China's edible farm produce prices slightly fell thanks to a rising stock of vegetables and low pork demand, said Shen Danyang, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce, on Tuesday (May 15).

Affected by off consumption season and rising supply on the market, pork prices have fallen persistently since late January while egg prices have kept a downward trend from the beginning of this year, noted Shen.

As weather is getting better, vegetables supply has been going up, with the wholesale prices down 3.6% in the week ending May 13, according to results of a survey by the ministry. Wholesale prices of pork last week dipped 0.2% from the preceding week while retail prices of eggs edged down 0.5% on-week.

Edible oil prices gained slightly last week, with retail prices of soyoil, rapeseed oil and peanut oil respectively up 0.1%, 0.1% and 0.5% from the previous week.
