Ukraine forecasts poultry production to increase 50.6% by 2016
The Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is forecasting that the production of poultry meat will increase by 620,000 tonnes or 50.6% to 1.845 million tonnes by 2016.
"Maintenance of the pace of development of the industry will be ensured by production of 1,845,000 tonnes of poultry meat in 2015, including 1,618,000 tonnes in agricultural enterprises," Ukraine's Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said.
According to Prysiazhniuk, such an increase in production will not only allow the demand on the domestic market to be met, but will also allow exports to increase.
The statement cited data, according to which production of poultry meat totalled 1.225 million tonnes, export of poultry meat totalled 33,000 tonnes, and production of eggs totalled 3.929 tonnes in 2010.
The ministry estimates the necessary investment in the sector over the next five years at UAH 9.350 billion (US$1.17 billion).
The Poultry Breeders of Ukraine is forecasting that production of poultry meat will increase by 5-7% to 1.31-1.34 million tonnes and production of eggs will increase by 10% or 1.7 billion to 18.7 billion in 2011.
The poultry population in Ukraine was 190.305 million as of April 1, 2011, including 110.352 million in specialised farms and 79.952 million in household farmsteads.
