US firm launches pet food verification programme

Integrated Management Information Inc (INMG), of Castle Rock, Colorado, on Tuesday (May 15) said it has started Pet Supply Verified, a pet food verification system designed to allow manufacturers to prove the origin of their ingredients.

In a press release, company president John Saunders said Pet Supply Verified was developed in response to nationwide pet food recalls because of tainted ingredients. Pets became sick or died from the chemical melamine or poisons.

Pet Supply Verified is modelled on the company's USVerified and Supply Verified services for the cattle and livestock industry, Saunders said. It forms a paper trail of ingredients to verify sellers' raw materials are accurate.
