Ukraine sows spring grains over 8.3 million hectares
Ukraine sowed spring grains and leguminous crops over the areas of 8.3 million hectares, or 94% of the projection, as of May 11, 2012.
In particular, agrarians planted corn for grain throughout 4.2 million hectares (95% of the forecast), buckwheat - 161,000 hectares (57%), millet - 125,000 hectares (53%), rice - 23,000 hectares (81%), sorghum - 107,000 hectares (61%).
Besides, sunflower seed planted areas already occupied 3.6 million hectares (89% of the forecast), soy - 1.09 million hectares (84% of the forecast).
Agrarians provided re-planting of perished winter grain areas with spring crops throughout 1.1million hectares, with the forecast of 1.57 million hectares.
