China may start buying pork next month
China may start buying pork for state reserves next month to prevent domestic prices from falling, the Nanfang Daily reported Friday (May 15), citing a government official.
Farmers shouldn't expand hog breeding anymore, the report cited an unnamed official from the National Development and Reform Commission as saying.
Last week, the government warned breeders of excess hog supply due to a rapid surge in hog numbers.
Pork prices have fallen 25 percent since the start of this year, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce.
