ADM expands Hamburg facility in Germany

Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) announced Thursday (May 11) that it would add 50,000 tonnes of additional storage capacity to its oil refinery and storage facility in Hamburg, Germany. The facility already houses Europe's largest soy and rapeseed crushing plants.

ADM would also add a palm oil refinery that will have an annual capacity of 350,000 tonnes.

With the addition, the facility will have a capacity of over 1 million tonnes per year of rapeseed, soy and palm oils, making it Europe's largest vegetable oil refinery capable of refining these oils.

Mark Zenuk, ADM vice-president and managing director-Europe, said the expansion is an example of how ADM's size and breadth allows it to supply food and industrial customers at an attractive cost.

The addition of palm oil refining in Hamburg would complete the company's product offering in a low-cost and logistically advantageous location for Central and Eastern Europe, the company said.

The plant is expected to be operational in early 2007.
