China launches new grain shipping port

Dandong Port, a port located in the most northern side of Chinese coastal line, has recently been opened and transported to places, including Guangdong, tens of thousand tonnes of grains.

This marks that there is a new sea channel for "north grain to the south" programme. After Dandong Port opens grain liner, grains in the east of Northeastern region will be transported to Dandong through railways or highways instead of going by sea through Dalian port or Yingkou port, thus greatly saving time and costs for transportation.

Northeastern region is a major grain production area in China. Three northeastern provinces produced 215.5 billion Jin (1 jin = 500 grams) in 2011, 18.9% of the nation's grain output. In other words, nearly one fifth of the nation's grain output came from the region.
