Kazakhstan aims 200,000 tonnes of meat exports by 2020

Kazakhstan will export 200,000 tonnes of meat by 2020, which is an equivalent to deliveries of 7-8 million tonnes of wheat to the export markets, according to Vice Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Armand Evniev.

Evniev considers that 64,000 tonnes, planned deliveries for the next three years, is an intermediate goal.

He noted that in 1992-93, Kazakhstan exported 347,000 tonnes of meat a year, mainly to Russia. Russia imports about 1.5 million tonnes of meat, 70,000 tonnes of beef.

He also noted that before creation of the Customs Union (CU), Kazakhstan did not have such an opportunity as there were very rigid borders that were impossible to pass through.

According to the vice minister, before the creation of the CU, Kazakhstan produced only the amount of meat that it consumed.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is planning to export up to three million tonnes of grain to East and Southeast Asia after China lifted the ban on such exports passing through its territory at the start of this year, according to local news.
