Pakistan tightens measures to boost milk and meat production
The Pakistani government is taking a number of measures to increase local milk and meat production which would help the country to be self-sufficient in this sector.
Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Humayun Aziz Kurd, said on Tuesday (May 12) that the federal government has launched a mega project focused on strengthening livestock services in the country besides establishing the Livestock Dairy Development Board to increase the pace of livestock and the dairy sector.
Giving details on various projects, Humayun said three other major projects have also been launched in this regard which would be completed by next year at a cost of over three billion rupees (US$35.74 million).
He added that due to government measure, milk production has increased by 3.35% while meat production has increased by 4.31 one%. Similarly, cattle production has also increased significantly during the last two years.
According to earlier reports, the country is also likely to have its first slaughter-house and a wholesale meat market to cope with the needs of increasing population.
