Enzyme phytase improves feed absorption
Adding enzyme phytase into animal feed could help the animals absorb more out of feed, leading to greater cost-effectiveness.
According to AB Vista's Michael Bedford, including enzyme phytase into animal diets could increase the amount of feed absorbed by the animal rather than being lost in manure, hence making them more cost-effective.
"Enzymes work by removing obstacles in digestion and breaking down indigestible anti-nutrients. Specifically, the enzyme phytase works by breaking down phytic acid, which is an irritant in the gut," Bedford said.
With 1.2% of soymeal made up of phytic acid, there are obvious benefits to using phytase in the diet. "Phytase breaks down phytic acid into several products including phosphorous, and this phosphorous release easily pays for the cost of the enzyme phytase," he said.
