Japan lifts import ban on Hungarian poultry

Japan has lifted its ban on Hungarian poultry imports as no new bird flu cases have been reported in the country, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said Friday.

The decision will allow Japan to resume foie gras imports from Hungary.

Japan had earlier banned Hungarian poultry imports due to bird flu in January. Hungary accounted for some 40 percent of total luxury food shipments to Japan before the ban.
