Myanmar drafts five-year development plan for dairy farms

In order to develop the country's dairy cattle breeding sector to which New Zealand government offered to render assistance, Myanmar has drafted a five-year sustainable plan.

The five-year draft concept plan (2013-18) was discussed recently at a stakeholder consultation workshop with Myanmar dairy sector representatives.

The Minister of Livestock and Fisheries U Ohn Myint said that regional dairy development boards have been formed across the country, stressing the need for more efforts to establish dairy cattle breeding farms and value-added dairy product factories.

New Zealand ended decades of limited contact last year when Prime Minister John Key visited Myanmar and pledged NZD7 million (US$5.7 million).
