Bans on Mexican pork lifted by four countries
Mexico's Economy Ministry said Tuesday (May 12) four countries that had prohibited the importation of Mexican pork because of the AH1N1 flu outbreak have lifted the ban.
In a press release, the ministry said Ecuador, Honduras, United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan have notified the ministry the bans were lifted. Ecuador had announced it lifted the ban last week.
Mexico's pork industry suffered as the flu outbreak prompted bans on Mexican pork and caused domestic consumption to plummet, despite assurances from the government and industry that no pigs were infected and that pork was safe to eat.
The Economy Ministry said it will continue its efforts to remove measures against Mexican goods that several countries are continuing to apply without any scientific or legal basis.
