Canadian grain and oilseed production soars
Output of leading grains and oilseeds in Canada during the 2011/12 (Aug/Jul) crop year will be more than the amount achieved during the 2010/11 season and the volume that was predicted for 2011/12 in March, according to updated supply/demand tables from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's market analysis division.
Production of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2011/12 was forecast at 68.191 million tonnes, the report released on May 10, 2011, said. This would be up from the 65.580 million tonnes projected in March and the 2010/11 level of 61.868 million.
The eight major grains and oilseeds include canola, flaxseed, soy, wheat, oats, barley, corn and rye.
Ending stocks of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2011/12 were pegged at 10.321 million tonnes, which would be higher than the March projection of 8.860 million and the 2010/11 estimate of 10.055 million.
Total exports of the eight major grains and oilseeds in the upcoming 2011/12 crop year were projected at 32.650 million tonnes. This would be fractionally higher than the 32.150 million tonnes estimated in March but below the 2010/11 expectation of 33.213 million.
Total domestic usage of the various grains and oilseeds for the 2011/12 crop year was estimated at 36.991 million tonnes. This was below the March forecast of 37.081 million tonnes but above the 2010/11 estimate of 36.413 million.
