Chile sees growing popularity in poultry

With changing consumption pattern and rising number of working women, Chileans will continue to spend more on food products, with poultry gaining a stronger presence, according to an industry research report "Chile Food and Beverages Market Outlook to 2013".

The report noted a shift from the consumption of domestically produced staples to more expensive branded products and processed packaged foods. Rising health awareness and higher incomes have also increased the consumption of healthier foods, in particular poultry meat, the report said.

The consumption of convenience foods in Chile is also growing due to a greater number of working women and higher average working hours. Consumers are also becoming more time-conscious, leading to a shift towards ready-to-cook and ready-made foods, the report said.

The report concluded that Chileans are looking for more convenience and the younger generation is embracing the US eating habits, which will give a huge boost to the demand of fast food products and restaurant food.

Therefore, restaurants and fast-food franchises will prosper in the coming years, the report said.
