Abu Dhabi launches Premium Food Mark to raise quality standards for locally produced chilled chicken

Abu Dhabi moves to strengthen consumer confidence and boost the competitiveness of its poultry sector through a new certification programme built on standards that go beyond existing UAE requirements.
Abu Dhabi's Quality and Conformity Council, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, has launched the Premium Food Mark for locally produced chilled chicken products, setting out advanced technical standards covering the full poultry value chain from farming and feeding through to packaging and distribution.
The initiative was developed under the Healthy Living Strategy and includes requirements covering animal welfare, sustainability and final product quality, alongside a tiered classification system to help consumers identify products meeting different quality levels. Approved assessment mechanisms and conformity certification processes will be put in place to ensure continuous compliance, supported by market monitoring.
Bader Alshemaili, Executive Director of the Conformity and Standards Sector, said the programme reflects Abu Dhabi's commitment to global best practices in food. "It contributes to strengthening consumer confidence, supporting local products, and encouraging the private sector to innovate and enhance production quality," he said.
Dr. Ahmed AlKhazraji, Executive Director of the Healthy Living Sector, said the mark supports more informed consumer decision-making while reinforcing local food security and resilience.
Dr. Sayed Essam Al Hashmi, Acting Executive Director of the Development and Innovation Sector at the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, described the Premium Food Mark as a strategic enabler for local poultry producers, adding that the programme encourages producers to adopt world-class technologies and improve efficiency across the supply chain.
