Argentina's 2012-13 wheat planting likely down on year

 

 

As farmers plant less and turn to other crops, Argentina's 2012-13 wheat planting is expected to drop sharply this season, the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange said Thursday (May 10).

 

Winter wheat planting is set to kick off later this month, and area is seen dropping 13% on the year to just four million hectares (9.9 million acres), the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange said it its weekly crop report Thursday.

 

The forecast marks the first formal estimate of wheat planting area for Argentina, the world's fifth leading wheat exporter.
