High-speed precision drilling sets new record

Claas and Horsch had set a new world record for high-speed precision drilling.

The two machinery firms sowed 448.29 hectares (1,109.23 acres) of corn in 24 hours at Chaplygin about 200 miles south-east of Moscow.

They used a 24-row Horsch Maestro 24 drill and Claas Xerion 5000 524 horse power tractor.

They managed to plant 18.6 hectares (45.96 acres) an hour and put in 88,000 grains over every hectare, about 35,600 an acre.

About 10 tonnes of seed and 47 tonnes of fertiliser were used. Average sowing speed was about nine miles an hour.
