China to raise agricultural commodity storage capacity
China plans to invest in the building of more storage capacity for a variety of agricultural commodities over the next two years, the State Council, which serves as the country's cabinet, said in a statement on the government's Web site Monday (May 11).
The investments would create storage capacity for 15 million tonnes of grains, 1.75 million tonnes of edible oils, 400,000 tonnes of sugar, and 500,000 tonnes of cotton.
The project is an effort to improve storage conditions for agricultural goods and reduce the risk of unnecessary crop damage.
