Zimbabwe's Windmill to produce poultry stockfeed
Windmill (Private) Limited, a fertiliser producer in Zimbabwe, has invested about US$60,000 in a poultry stockfeed plant.
Â
The company's sales manager for animal health, Tichaona Revesai, said the business will be targeting small-scale and medium-scale poultry producers before gradually ramp up production to cater for large-scale producers.
Â
Revesai said the company has the capacity, expertise and land to compete with the big producers.
Â
He said Windmill's poultry stockfeeds have been tested at the University of Zimbabwe and have shown that it takes an average of six weeks for the birds to reach an average of 1.8 kg, with the highest weight recorded at 2.2 kg.
Â
Windmill will produce 100 tonnes in phases of 30 tonnes, but the maximum production capacity per month could reach 500 tonnes per month, said Revesai.
Â
Windmill is currently engaging in trade deals with farmers, in which fertiliser will be traded for corn and soy. In addition, toll manufacturing is being done for customers that have corn and soymeal. Windmill is currently producing broiler starter and finisher pre-mixes. The entrance of Windmill into the market is expected to increase competition and help stabilise commodity prices.
