Mexico lifts ban on Uruguay beef
Mexico has announced this week Uruguay can resume its beef exports which Mexican authorities have banned in January 2007 due to carton labelling issues.
Mexico, a market with 100 million consumers, has imposed an 8 percent tariff on Uruguayan beef which is seen to decrease to 7 percent in July due to the current free trade agreement with Uruguay.
This tariff is minimal compared to the 26.4 percent out-of-quota tariff imposed in the Uruguayan beef in the US.
