Pakistan wheat shortfall looms

Pakistan may have to import perhaps as much as 1 million tonnes of wheat this year, the Financial Times reports.

The paper says the harvest has been hit by water shortages and an unexpected rise in temperatures last month.

The paper quotes Western experts saying the harvest is likely to be below the December government forecast of 22 million tonnes. Pakistan consumes 21 million tonnes a year.
