The 15th Eastern China Poultry Trade Fair opens in Yangzhou

An eFeedLink exclusive report

The 15th Eastern China Poultry Trade Fair is being held from May 10 - 11, 2005 at Yangzhou city of Jiangsu province. This annual event is an important platform for poultry and poultry-related industries across the country to showcase their achievements, and partake in product trading and information exchange.

A total of 230 poultry and poultry-related enterprises from 21 Chinese provinces participated in the trade fair.  eFeedLink is a key media sponsor of the event.

Several discussion forums were also held throughout the 2-day event.  About 30 entrepreneurs and experts from well-known local research organisations and agricultural institutions shared their views and analysis on the current situation and outlook of the poultry industry in China.

At the opening ceremony of the trade fair on May 10, Zhang Xiwu, Assistant Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry in the Ministry of Agriculture, noted in his address that China's poultry industry has a long tradition and is highly competitive. Poultry consumption per capita in the country is on par or has surpassed those of some developed nations.

The poultry industry in China was badly affected by the bird flu outbreak in 2004.  However, with full support from government bodies and enterprises, the situation has recovered tremendously in the past year.  Consumers' confidence in poultry products had helped the continual growth in livestock inventories in the first quarter of 2005.

Shanghai will reportedly host the 16th Eastern China Poultry Trade Fair in 2006.
