Botswana Markets Top Quality Beef

In ensuring that Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) was competitive in the international market, training and interaction with similar international organisations are utilized to produce high quality products.

BMC general manager (Marketing) Sonny Molapisi said this to a group of visiting foreign journalists on a tour of its factory in Lobatse on May 7.

BMC had a quota to supply 18 000 tonnes of beef to the EU, which had not been met up to now because of a shortage of cattle.

Molapisi informed the reporters that the BMC products carry the "halaal" label because there is a huge Muslim population in Europe.

The largest market for the BMC products was mainly the EU, Norway and Reunion. He added that the EU market preferred Botswana beef because cattle slaughtered by BMC grew organically in a free-range system.
