VzF GmbH launches a pilot project to reduce the use of antibiotics

Press release

VzF GmbH launched a project to develop farm-specific actions with the aim of optimizing hygiene, feeding and vaccination management in cooperation with industry and science. This is due to the fact that consumers' demands of pork no longer only focus on the product, but also on the method of production. The resistance against antibiotics and the reduction of use are gaining attention nowadays.

As part of this project, information will be gathered during three years on pig farms about its biological performance, efficiency coefficients, nutrition, hygiene, health and management and the use of antibiotics.

Animal health, antibiotic use and performance will depend on the effect of many factors in different disciplines. That's why several companies have come on board this project.

The project was initiated by VzF and Marketing Service GmbH Gerhardy (MSG), and is financially supported exclusively by these three private enterprises: CID Lines (Belgium) as a producer of hygiene products, DSM Nutritional Products Europe as a producer of food additives and MSD Intervet Germany as a manufacturer of vaccines and medicines for animals. The involvement of these companies in this project shows the interest in sustainable pig production and the interest to reduce the risk of antibiotics.
