Brazil seen to harvest 130.7 million tonnes of grain
Brazil's grain production in the 2006/2007 crop should reach 130.7 million tonnes due to increase in productivity caused by good climate conditions and high technological level of crops, according to latest study by the National Food Supply Company (Conab).
Conab said around 95 percent of the soy produced in Brazil, or 54.6 million tonnes, has already been harvested. The first corn and rice harvests have increased in September last year and around 85 percent of the corn has already been picked (31.5 million tonnes). Approximately 92 percent of the rice (10.3 million tonnes) has also increased. The cultivated area in the country this crop should reach 45.84 million hectares.
