Bt corn officially permitted in the Philippines
Syngenta's Bt Corn 11 has been approved for circulation within the Philippines. The Philippine Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Plant Industry made the decision last month.
The Philippines has initially allowed Bt Corn 11 for direct use as food and feed only on July 22, 2003. The current approval now permits the propagation of Bt 11 within the country in addition to its import for food or feed use.
Monsanto's Corn MON 810 and Corn NK603 have also earlier successfully gone through the safety assessments for direct use as food, feed, and for propagation.
