Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov said that the country's wheat production is expected to reach at least 2.8 million tonnes in 2013.
"Although previously before the maximum output was predicted at this level, now according to the information received from the regions and the ministry officers assigned to the regions, the figure is believed to be higher this year," the minister said.
Despite this Azerbaijan's dependence on imports will still remain, the minister said.
"Wheat is not only food wheat, but also used as fodder. By the president's order we have started working on creating large farms. In the future we will be able to fully provide ourselves with all kinds of agricultural products, including wheat for food," the minister said.
