Vietnam's pork prices down, chicken up

All kinds of pork listed in Ho Chi Minh City's price stabilisation programme will be slashed by VND1,000-3,000 (US$0.05-0.14) a kilogramme, while garden chicken prices in the same programme will be raised by VND4,000 (US$0.19) per kilogramme.

The price adjustments were the result of a meeting between representatives of related companies and the city's Department of Finance on May 4. As such, corporate participants in the price stabilisation programme will cut pork prices to between VND72,000-93,000 (US$3.46-4.47) a kilogramme from May 7.

The price cut of pork at present is reasonable as the price of live pigs has remained at VND45,000 (US$2.16) per kilogramme recently as cited by Vissan General Deputy Director Tran Tan An.

Meanwhile, garden chicken prices will be increased up to VND59,000 (US$2.83) a kilogramme from May 7. According to Pham Thi Ngoc Ha, Director of San Ha Co. Ltd, the recent price spikes of fuel, salaries and packages have caused garden chicken meat prices to increase.
