Belarus sows corn over 506,500 ha
Agricultural firms of Belarus sowed corn over the areas of 506,500 ha, or 51.6% of the planned areas, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus reported.
In general, agrarians planted spring crops throughout 1817.2 thsd ha (70.7% of the plan), including early spring grains and leguminous plants - 952.5 thsd ha (91.8%). Belarus planted spring rapeseed throughout 46.7 thsd ha (47.1%), sugar beet - 98 thsd ha (98.9%).
In 2012, agrarians plan to realise the spring planting works throughout the areas of over 2.6 million ha, including spring grains and leguminous crops - 1.4 million ha. In order to create the complete forage base, the country expanded the planted areas of leguminous crops by 26% compared to the level of 2011 (Belarus planned to plant crops throughout 183.6 thsd ha), soybeans - up 5.6 times (18.2 thsd ha), sunflower seeds - up 8.4 times (25.1 thsd ha).
