Norway's 2012 chicken production to surpass beef production

For the first time ever in 2012, Norway will produce more chicken than beef, according to figures from meat producer Nortura.

Beef production is expected to drop 4% from 2011 whereas chicken production is expected to increase 7%.

Merete Furuberg of farmer association Norsk Bonde- og Småbrukarlag describes the situation as unacceptable and says that Norwegian farmers must fight the image that white meat is healthier than red meat.
