Brazil pork exports up 10% in April 2011
Brazil's pork exports in April totalled US$145.41 million, up 10% from US$132.2 million in the same month last year, the Brazilian pork export association (Abipecs) said on Friday (May 6).
However, sale volumes last month were 0.6% weaker than a year before at 50,944 tonnes.
In January-April, exports jumped 7.16% in revenue to US$456.487 million as average prices advanced 12% to US$2,699 per tonne, but fell 4.3% in volume to 169,113 tonnes.
Russia, the main buyer of Brazilian pork, imported 68,220 tonnes in the first four months of 2011, 17% less than in the same period of 2010. In revenue, purchases from Russia fell 4.4% to US$211.24 million.
In volume, other major buyers of Brazilian pork since the start of the year were Hong Kong (33,720 tonnes), Argentina (13,330 tonnes), Angola (11,310 tonnes), and Ukraine (9,710 tonnes).
