Mexico's Sigma Alimentos opens processing plant in the US
Mexican processed food supplier Sigma Alimentos opened its first US factory this week.
The US$60 million processing plant is expected to produce 400,000 pounds of hot dogs and ham daily and employ 400 people. The 129,000-square-foot factory began operations last Wednesday.
Sigma is a leader of the frozen and refrigerated food production and distribution in Mexico. In 2004, it registered sales of 488,888 tons of processed foods worth $1.22 billion.
The company began exporting to the US in 2002 and set up Sigma Foods, which is based in Texas.
