Iran to produce 350,000 tonnes of meat this year

The continuous growth of population and increase in consumption will have Iran produce 330,0000 to 350,000 tonnes of meat in the current Iranian calendar (started March 21, 2007), posting a 10 percent increase from last year.

Mohammad Mussavi, the head of Iran's Meat Products Co., said the country is seen to produce 330 to 350 varieties of meat.

Iran's annual domestic red meat production is nearly at 100,000 tonnes and needs to import 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes of red meat to augment the demand.

Mussavi said tariffs on imported meat are at zero level that prevents price hikes of meat in the country.
