Bayer to build wheat breeding station in US Nebraska

Bayer CropScience has leased 400 acres in Seward County to build a wheat breeding station.

A release from the company says the station will be the focal point of its wheat breeding programme in North America.

The company secured the land near Goehner on Tuesday (May 1).

Edward Souza, the global wheat breeding manager, says the station will benefit farmers in the region, along with the world grain trade.

In 2010, Bayer partnered with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to improve wheat breeding and develop new varieties. The company has been working since then to find a location for its breeding station.
