Thailand to halt US beef imports

Thailand is halting some US beef imports, following the discovery of mad cow disease in California, according to Tritsadee Chaosuanchaoren, Director-General of Department of Livestock Department.

However, imports of items such as boneless beef cuts from animals under 30 months of age, dairy, skin, gelatin, fat and collagen aren't affected. In the first quarter of this year, Thailand imported 37,599 kilogrammes of boneless beef cuts from the US which was worth THB18 million (US$581,583). Last year, the country imported 58,969 kilogrammes worth THB29 million (US$937,000).
