Norway seafood exports up 13 percent in April

Norway exported seafood worth NOK3.3 billion (US$508 million) in April, an increase of 13 percent over the same period last year, according to figures from the Norwegian Export Council for Fish.

So far Norway's seafood exports are valued at NOK14 billion (US$2.1 billion). This a 14 percent increase from the same period in 2008.

The Export Council's information director Egil Ove Sundheim said one of the main reasons for the increase is higher demand from key markets for salmon in Russia and the EU.

Sundheim added that there is an increasing demand for Norwegian salmon in the US, and also a higher demand for Norwegian herring from Russia.
